Both flyweight titles on the line!!

UFC 255 on November 21st, 2020 both the men’s and women’s flyweight title will be on the line.

The main event is going to be Deiveson Figueiredo defending his belt, for the first time since beating Benavidez for the flyweight title, against Cody Garbrandt. Cody was last seen KO’ing Raphael Assuncao at UFC 250. Cody is making his debut at flyweight.

Cody is 1-3 in his last 4 fights being straight KO’d in his three losses and yes he beat Assuncao with a vicious KO, but he was rocked and backing against the cage and landed a clean right with one second remaining in round 2. His chin has been suspect and dropping a weight class will not help that chin. I am not saying Cody is a bad fighter by any means but after his three straight losses I would like to see a little more before giving him a title shot in a division he’s never fought in. We know Cody has a ton of talent as we saw in his domination of Dominick Cruz, back in 2016. I know he is a money fight for the UFC as he has great talent, but his glory days were 2016 and earlier. We should see more first.

Now who should probably have this title shot? Brandon Moreno, he’s been on a roll at flyweight with 3 wins and a draw in his last 4 fights. Brandon has been dominating his opponents as of late and is sitting at the top of the flyweight division rankings.

The women’s division makes sense since JoJo Calderwood was next in line for Valentina Shevchenko and lost to Jennifer Maia. Jennifer Maia will battle arguably the second best woman’s fighter in UFC history for the flyweight belt in the co-main event when she takes on Valentina Shevchenko.

My early predictions for these two titles fights are as follows. A very early round 1 KO for Figueiredo over Garbrandt as he seems unstoppable at flyweight to be honest. With a win Figueiredo would become the only flyweight fighter to defend this divisions belt besides Demetrious Johnson. The co-main event I believe will end with Valentina picking up a round 4 TKO after winning the first three rounds on the scorecard dominantly.
